Issues with MMC-RTC

Hi,

One question about the MMC card I just bought. I tried multiple times to load to the card files for more than 128K in size, but, all of the times I\'m unable to. When I arrive to a certain address (during the write operation) I get

Success writing 512 bytes, 047800-0479FF

Success writing 512 bytes, 047C00-047DFF
Hard Drive Write error,ec =2143
Error downloading program, ec=2143

I\'m using WebCat publisher either the latest beta version (webcat_09_nov_2006.zip) or the official download. I also tried several different types and brands of MMCs (Sandisk,Verbatim,pq1) dual voltage and non-dual voltage, 256Mb or 128Mb.. the result is always the same, I arrive at a certain point and I get the error of above (the address changes depending on the MMC I use and sometimes even with the same MMC)

I tried also to format the MMCs (with FAT filesystem) in a device connected to the PC and the to use webcat publisher but I got same result. Then I tried to copy the files directly to the MMC (i copied the demo) using the PC device and then use the MMC on the webserver, the result has been that some files cannot be read and appears to be garbled (!)

I tried also the old and the new release of webcat (1.02,1.05) by loading them with the new beta version of WebcatPublisher and with the official one.. no results..

Any idea on what could be causing this issue ? I did not change the position of the jumper of the MMC board (is in the middle position) and I checked it\'s correctly and firmly inserted in the main MIN-MAX board.

Please replace mm51c.dll under C:\\bipom\\devtools\\WebCat
with a new DLL from
http://www.bipom.com/support/mm51c.zip

It prints some debug messages.
So we will be able to identify the issue of Publisher
download.

This is what I got when simulating the error this time

(I guess the additional numbers are the diagnostic codes you inserted, if not let me know what app\'s logfile you need and I will provide it)

"3 2 251" - webCat can\'t write the next file sector ( 512 bytes)  to MMC. There are some problems with MMC writing.

Do you have 128 MB SanDisk ?
I have only 16Mb, 64 MB SanDisk cards right now.
We will try to find the same card you have and try.
Can you download 128K disk images to MMC without problems ?

I updated the firmware with the one coming with this new version of webcat (V1.06) and infact now if I format the MMC on the PC, I copy the demo files to it and then I insert the MMC in the MIN-MAX, everything works like a charm: no more garbled files (!) this is a very nice news !!

Yes, and this one is not dual voltage, then I tried with a Verbatim 128Mb dual voltage, a 256Mb Verbatim dual voltage and a PQ1 256Mb dual voltage.. all of them are giving these issue of the write error.

Initially I tried to find these low capacity devices because I imagined that using different MMCs would have signified possible issues, unfortunately these MMC with this small capacity are out of stock almost everywhere.. the oldest you can find are 128Mb (and I had to search them in several different places) the only advantage is their price (only 9¤) because the shops want to get rid of them..

On the Verbatim 256Mb yes(it\'s the only capacity that works till the end), but it\'s the only card, on all the other models all the capacities are failing 64K,128K,512K.. on the Verbatim 128Mb when trying 128K I arrive almost at the end of the transfer operation and then I get the (in)famous error.

The error (and the diagnostic codes) anyway are the same all of the times the data copy operation fails on all the MMCs I tested.

It seems you can move with your application now.
You can download/debug using 128K disk images
and put the final huge WEB site using a PC\'s reader.

In any case I will try SanDisk 128MB and let you know.

Yes, now it\'s only a matter of extracting the MMC from the MIN-MAX socket and copy the data with the PC so for sure the webserver is fully usable.

I can duplicate issues with 256MB MMC from KData.

I fixed the timing issue of 256MB MMC

Please download the latest WebCat  release
from
http://www.bipom.com/support/webcat_26_jan_2007.zip

and upgrade WebCat firmware ( MMC version)

As I promised I tested it ;-)
In my first attempt I tried without upgrading the firmware of the board and the transfer of the data to the MMC failed again !!! argh ! then I realized that and I did first a firmware update and then the transfer of the files.. the transfer worked like charm this time! (512K)  you fixed it !

but, there\'s a but..
after the download the web server was not working.. so I tried with the debuggin messages and I got..

It appears like, even Webcat was able to complete the download to the MMC something was messed up in the filesystem...

Please note !!! * HARD DRIVE: I2C EEPROM * !!!
You downloded I2C firmware to the board ( not MMC firmware)
Please select MMC under  Firmware list box to upgrade

Argh !! I didn\'t notice that ! I must have selected it by mistake when downloading the firmware..
Now everything\'s fine.. I re-downloaded the CORRECT firmware and it works perfectly, I also copied the files again and the transfer was completed without any issue.
